Air Fryer Hamburgers !

Delicious and juicy air fryer hamburgers cooked with your favorite toppings create a fast evening supper!

Air fryers are renowned to make deep-fried dishes a bit healthier, but most people don’t realise you can cook the greatest raw hamburgers in the air fryer!

There’s nothing I enjoy more than excellent handmade burgers on the barbecue. Except we reside in New York and it can drop down to zero degrees with the windchill here in the winter. That doesn’t make excellent grilling weather.

I began wanting some hamburger patties and decided I would try cooking them in the air fryer. They turned out juicy and properly cooked medium well!

How to Cook Hamburgers in the Air Fryer

STEP ONE: Preheat your air fryer to 360 degrees.

STEP TWO: Mix up the ground beef, minced garlic, salt, and pepper using your hands. Form the ground meat into 4 hamburger patties.

I like to use the bottom of a plate to push the patty onto the cutting board to help make my burgers relatively thin.

The burgers will reduce in size and rise a bit within the air fryer.

STEP THREE: Place a slice of bread in between the air fryer basket and drawer if using a basket air fryer. This will absorb up any fat that spills to prevent smoking in your air fryer.

STEP FOUR: Place the hamburger meat in the air fryer in one layer. They may be touching but should not overlap at all.

If there isn’t enough space in the air fryer, you may cook in batches.

STEP FIVE: Cook the air fryer hamburger patties for 8-12 minutes, turning once halfway through until the hamburgers reach the internal temperature of 155 degrees (for a medium-well hamburger).

STEP SIX: Remove the hamburger patties from the air fryer, arrange them on hamburger buns with your preferred toppings, and enjoy!

How To Add Cheese to an Air Fryer Hamburger

Once the air fryer burgers are done, turn the air fryer off, open it, put the cheese on top, then seal the air fryer back up with the hamburger steaks inside.
Allow 1-2 minutes for the cheese to melt with the remaining heat inside the air fryer.

If the cheese does not melt using the previous approach, just insert 4 toothpicks on each “corner” of the burger where the cheese is and grill at 360 degrees for approximately 1 minute.

If you have a thick piece of cheese, like cheddar, it may need to cook for an extra minute.

Now you have an air fryer cheeseburger!

How Long to Cook Hamburgers in the Air Fryer

The time it takes to cook a hamburger in the air fryer depends on how good you would want your burger.

Always check the interior temperature with a meat thermometer before to removing the hamburgers from the air fryer and eating.

Rare (125 degrees): roughly 4 minutes + let the burger rest for 3 minutes
Medium Rare (135 degrees): around 5 minutes
Medium (145 degrees): around 6 minutes
Medium Well (155 degrees): around 8-12 minutes
Well Done (160 degrees): around 10+ minutes

What Kind of Hamburger Meat Should I Use?

I personally prefer to use an 80/20 (80% ground beef/20% fat) burger since it includes enough fat to make the burger juicy but is still more healthier than fattier variants.

Using a 90/10 burger begins to produce a hamburger in the air fryer turned a touch dry.

When hamburgers cook, they expel the liquid within causing the burger to shrink. That liquid also contains fat.

The fattier your ground beef, the more your burger will shrink.

When creating your patties, make them bigger than the bun size to accommodate for the inevitable shrinking.
